Team Overview

The Payroll Specialist is responsible for the end-to-end administration and execution of payroll operations for employees in Mexico, ensuring compliance with Mexican labor laws, tax regulations, social security obligations, and internal company policies. This role owns the full payroll lifecycle, from employee onboarding through offboarding, while partnering with HR, Finance, Tax, Benefits, Legal, and external payroll vendors to deliver accurate and timely payroll processing.

Role Responsibilities

·       Manage complete Mexico payroll cycles including semi-monthly, off-cycle, bonus, special payrolls, finiquitos, and liquidaciones.


·       Collect, validate, and reconcile payroll inputs, time and attendance, finance, and payroll vendors.


·       Perform gross-to-net validation, payroll balancing, variance analysis, approvals, funding coordination, payroll execution, and payroll close activities.


·       Maintain accurate payroll master data, employee records, pay elements, deductions, bank details, tax data.


·       Serve as subject matter expert for Mexico payroll rules, statutory obligations, internal controls, and payroll best practices.


·       Terminations: final payroll, finiquito, liquidacion, severance, vacation payout, aguinaldo adjustments, PTU adjustments.


·       SAT: ISR withholding, CFDI payroll receipts, payroll tax reporting.


·       IMSS: employee registrations, salary modifications, employer contributions, disability reporting, risk classification, and contribution calculations.


·       INFONAVIT/Fonacot: loan deductions, employer reporting, contribution calculations, and employee deduction reconciliation.


·       State payroll taxes: calculation, reconciliation, filing support, and payment coordination.


·       Strong working knowledge of Federal Labor Law, Social Security Law, Income Tax Law, audit requirements, and payroll data privacy obligations. 


·       Regular salary, overtime, shift premiums, vacation pay, vacation premium, aguinaldo, PTU, commissions, bonuses, incentives, gross-ups, finiquitos, and liquidaciones.


·       Support internal and external audits, evidence collection, and remediation of payroll findings.


·       Partner with HR, Finance, Accounting, Tax, Treasury, Benefits, Compensation, Legal, Internal Audit, external payroll vendors, and government agencies.

Role Qualifications

Experience Requirements


·       6-8 years of progressive payroll experience, with strong exposure to Mexico payroll operations.


·       Minimum 5 years processing payroll for Mexico, including statutory compliance and year-end activities.


·       Experience managing payroll for medium to large employee populations, ideally 500-5,000+ employees.


·       Experience in multinational, shared services, global payroll, or outsourced payroll environments is highly desirable.

·       Strong end-to-end Mexico payroll processing knowledge.


·       Advanced analytical, reconciliation, and problem-solving skills.


·       Exceptional attention to detail and ability to work under strict deadlines.


·       Strong communication, stakeholder management, confidentiality, customer service, and ownership mindset.


·       Ability to interpret complex payroll legislation and translate it into operational payroll processes.


·       Professional working proficiency in English is required. The role demands the ability to understand and discuss work-related tasks, compose emails, and conduct internal meetings in English.


Education and Certifications


·       Bachelor degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related discipline is required.
